David J. Shafer is the managing member of Springwood Warehouses, LLC, an owner and lessor of warehouses serving the mining industry in Middle Georgia; Atwood Realty, LLC, a commercial real estate brokerage firm licensed by the Georgia Real Estate Commission; Atwood Insurance, LLC, an insurance agency licensed by the Georgia Department of Insurance; and Presidential Bail Bonding Company LLC, a surety of bail bonds.
Mr. Shafer served in the State Senate of Georgia from 2002 to 2019 and as President Pro Tempore of the Senate from 2011 to 2018. He represented Georgia on the Southern States Energy Board, an interstate compact of sixteen states created in 1960 to promote energy cooperation and coordinate economic development. He was Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party from 2019 to 2023. He served on the board of directors of the Georgia Underwriting Association, a property and casualty insurance company, and Safe Gun Technology, Inc., a technology company. He formerly served on the board of directors of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Atlanta, and Partnership Against Domestic Violence. He was Vice Chairman of the Gwinnett County Library Board of Trustees. Mr. Shafer is a graduate of the University of Georgia. He served on the board of visitors of the University of Georgia and the board of directors of its National Alumni Association.
